Meeting with Russian-speaking scientists and experts working in Germany.

 

On April 17, Skolkovo is giving the chance for Russian-speaking scientists and experts at major German universities to find out about the latest developments within the Skolkovo ecosystem by meeting with executives from the Skolkovo Foundation and the Skolkovo Institute for Science and Technology (Skoltech).

 

Attendees will discover how the Skolkovo project has grown since the last meeting in Berlin in 2012, and also get to discuss potential support mechanisms for research and the commercialization of innovative new technologies.

Skolkovo Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in September 2010 by the Russian government with an objective to accelerate transformation of Russia from a resource-intensive to an innovation-based economy. To achieve this objective the Foundation is overseeing the creation of the Skolkovo Innovation Centre composed of companies and start-ups, developing innovative technologies (currently numbering over 850), a Technopark, the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), a new graduate research University established in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Skolkovo city, located near Moscow. Together these entities will establish a vibrant eco-system of technology innovation and entrepreneurship. 28 world’s most successful corporations, including Boeing, Cisco Systems, EADS, GE, Johnson& Johnson, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Siemens, Nokia, etc. have already recognized the opportunity Skolkovo presents having signed R&D partnership agreements with the Foundation.

Open University Skolkovo

Open University Skolkovo is a program of the Skolkovo Foundation that aims at creating and developing a community of talented young scholars and entrepreneurs whose expertise provides new human resources and tech startups for Skolkovo Innovation Centre and the innovation ecosystem of Russia. OpUS is a part of the ecosystem of Skolkovo Innovation Centre. It is a source of prospective applicants for The Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), a source of interns for Skolkovo partner companies, a source of projects for Skolkovo. OpUS is not an educational institution and it does not award diplomas upon completion of education.

Skoltech

The Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) is a private graduate research university in Skolkovo, Russia, a suburb of Moscow. Established in 2011 in collaboration with MIT, Skoltech will educate global leaders in innovation, advance scientific knowledge, and foster new technologies to address critical issues facing Russia and the world. Applying international research and educational models, the university integrates the best Russian scientific traditions with twenty-first century entrepreneurship and innovation. Skoltech is organized as a permanent, modern, international university with a physical campus for research and education in Skolkovo, Russia. Skoltech will initially have five primary education and research programs, corresponding to priority areas as defined by Russia: these will be Programs in Information Science and Technology, Energy Science and Technology, Biomedical Science and Technology, Space Science and Technology, and civilian Nuclear Science and Technology. Each of these Programs will provide Master’s and Ph.D. degrees to be granted by Skoltech.
