Krasnoyarsk, April 2
On April 2, at the Krasnoyarsk Regional Innovation and Technology Business Incubator (KRITBI) a meeting was held between young entrepreneurs and creators of innovative projects with experts from the Russian StartUp Tour..
The event was attended by 310 people. Fourteen projects were considered by experts during the coaching session of regional startups, four of which were deemed to be promising and attractive to venture capitalists.
Russian StartUp Tour's road show - a large-scale project of Russian development institutes engaged in the formation and development of Russia's innovation ecosystem, organizational and mentoring support, as well as grants for promoting innovative projects and building capacity among the start-up teams, assistance in finding investors and bringing the startups to the commercialization stage.
From 18 March to 29 April 2013, experts and mentors from the Russian StartUp Tour will meet with young entrepreneurs and start-up teams in 15 different Russian cities. The experts' goal is to provide participants with the knowledge and technology to "package" and promote their projects, to show the current capabilities of the Russian and international markets for venture capital investment. Over the course of one and a half months, the organizers and partners of the Russian StartUp Tour plan to gather more than 3,000 Russians who are progressive, dynamic and interested in the development of high-tech projects, to bring together the creators and customers of innovative solutions to push start-ups to a new stage of development.
Krasnoyarsk is the seventh city so far to be visited by the meets Russian StartUp Tour. Apart from Krasnoyarsk, meetings have also been held in Naberezhnye Chelny, Ufa, Tyumen, Omsk, Samara and Vladivostok. By the end of April, the experts of the Russian StartUp Tour will have visited Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Astrakhan, Rostov-on-Don, Kaluga, Belgorod and Kaliningrad.
Among those to present participants with opportunities and resources of the development institutes were organizers and partners of the project: Pekka Viljakainen, adviser to the president of the Skolkovo Fund; Maxim Kiselev, director of development of Skolkovo's Technopark; Sergei Blintsov, head the Zvorykinsky project “Federal Agency for Youth Affairs”; Yevgeny Maiyer, head of the work with partners from RBK; Igor Bogachev, executive director of the information technology cluster of the Skolkovo Fund; Mikhail Myagkov, vice president for academic affairs at the SkolTech Institute of Science and Technology; Denis Gusev, head of the "Young Professionals" agency for strategic initiatives; Mikhail Kharuzin, managing director of investment with JSC RBK; Alexander Pankov, director of investment management for VTB Capital.
In their speeches, the experts and speakers repeatedly stressed the need to create and develop a community of start-ups in the regions, which will become a magnet for young entrepreneurs who are progressive, ambitious and striving for development and success. So, the head of the Zvorynsky project, Sergei Blintsov, while offering the idea of creating a network of start-up clubs across the country, said that new technologies planted from the “top down” simply would not work if young entrepreneurs don't want to move toward the high-tech market. "For the plans to become a reality, it is vital to communicate. We need to set up communities on the ground. So this will be that breeding ground, that launch pad for starting a business.”
Denis Gusev, the head of the "Young Professionals" agency for strategic initiatives, emphasized the importance of a clear, understandable, and step-by-step action plan for young entrepreneurs: "It is important to create an informal atmosphere in the business community. On the ground, a lot of people say that such institutions exist, but in reality that is just a formality, a trend or the desire to account to someone. It is necessary for communication, the exchange of experiences, the search for investors and later the move to the international market, to be natural and always in your line of vision. That is what our institutions exist for. "
Andrei Gnezdilov, deputy governor of the Krasnoyarsk region, reiterated the commitment to support and develop entrepreneurial initiatives, noting that the region is moved toward an innovative economy a few years ago and has already achieved considerable success: "In addition to the metal and mining industry, Krasnoyarsk businessmen are actively developing areas like biotechnology, nanotechnology and machinery. Krasnoyarsk has five projects that are successfully being developed on the international market. And just a few years ago, they were merely beginning entrepreneurs."
According to Andrei Gnezdilov, for successful promotion on the market, a clear and effective system of support for entrepreneurs at the regional level helps greatly; the Krasnoyarsk region is part of the Association of Innovative Regions, which cooperates with the largest Russian and international development institutes and creates platforms for promotion, just like the Krasnoyarsk Regional Innovation and Technology Business Incubator (KRITBI).
The coaching session for the regional start-ups, at which experts advised young entrepreneurs on pre-selected projects, as usual generated much interest among the even'ts participants; despite the closed session format, more than 100 people took part in the work of experts and start-up teams.
As a result of coaching sessions on managing investments of RBK private equity funds, Mikhail Kharuzin noted some specifics of projects offered by Krasnoyarsk: "In the Krasnoyarsk region, there are two main things: science and industry. That by itself suggests a certain sphere of application: various kinds of nanocoating for industry, energy conservation, agriculture and metal."
According to experts, most of the projects presented were quite inAuthors: a group of developers under the leadership of I. Guryanova). The idea of the project is to fully automatize the processes involved in the production of vegetteresting, but in particular there were four projects that stood out as having strong potential for successful commercialization and attracting venture capital investment:
In closing the meeting, the headliner of the road show, Pekka Viljakainen, adviser to the president of the Skolkovo Fund, noted how important it is today to create small innovative enterprises. “Large companies are just a part of the economy. But they are by far not the most important. Russia and the Krasnoyarsk region need thousands of new start-ups. An effective economy depends not only on big companies, but on small business as well. And in this region there are all the conditions necessary for the creation of such a model. I think the next Richard Branson should appear in Russia from precisely the high-technology business.”
The organizers of the Russian StartUp Tour roadshow are: Fund Skolkovo, Zvorykinsky project and RVC. The project has been made possible in partnership with the Foundation for Assistance to Small Sized Innovation Enterprises in Science and Technology, Skolkovo Moscow School of Management, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), VTB Capital, Skolkovo Technopark, Agency for Strategic Initiatives, Startup Sauna, a leading business accelerator in Finland, Innovation Cup which is the federal competition of tech universities related tech projects supported by the Ministry of Economic development, Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Communications and mass Communications of the Russian Federation, and the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs.
