A meeting for friends of the Space Technologies and Telecommunications Cluster was held on 29 September 2011 at the Moscow Planetarium.

The event, moderated by Executive Director of the Space Technologies and Communications Cluster Sergey Zhukov, included a number of reports on the topics, “Navigation in Emergency Situations: The Future of the ERA-GLONASS Project” and “The Noospheric Construction of Planet Earth in Space.”

The meeting was attended by about 80 people, including leading experts in the Russian space industry, scientists, professors, international specialists, the first residents of the ST&C Cluster and prospective participants.

After the presentations, the session participants exchanged opinions and discussed topical issues related to the Cluster's activities. Additionally, a tour of the planetarium was organised as part of the event. The scientists visited two levels of the classic Urania Museum.

The ST&C Cluster's key activity areas are space and ground trunk communications; Earth sensing and space navigation, including the development of onboard and ground-based equipment and accessories, navigation chipsets, and other competitive products and services for global markets; next-generation launch vehicles and manned vehicles, including ones for space tourism; deep space research projects; the transfer of space technologies to “terrestrial” sectors of the economy; and establishing a legal framework for regulating commercial activities in the space and telecommunications industry.

Up to 30 companies are expected to become Cluster residents by the end of 2011 and grant support will be provided to at least eight companies.
