Although widely used, satellites are expensive to build and to launch. That began to change recently. Taking advantage of smartphones and other consumer technologies, tiny satellites are changing the space business. According to The Economist, in the next five years or so some 1,000 small satellites of 1-10kg are expected to be launched.
Taymyr was created to provide fast and low-cost access to space for the under-served small satellite market, where secondary-payload launches are often the only option.
