The Skolkovo Foundation is a co-organizer and an active participant in Open Innovations Forum that will take place in Moscow on 31 October – 2 November 2013. As one of the central annual events in the sphere of innovative development the Forum will bring together representatives of Russian and international venture capital funds, governmental structures, key economic institutions, science and expert communities

The Skolkovo Foundation executives will act as participants and moderators of the Forum’s debates, will organize special master-classes for young entrepreneurs. At the Open Innovations exhibition the Foundation will present the most promising projects of its residents along the three lines: energy-efficient solutions, digital medicine and new industrial technologies.

The key startup participants from Skolkovo Innovation Center include:

Ego

An Astrakhan company Bravo Motors will display its highly compact personal electro and transformer car that allows its owner to drive along the city roads without problems with traffic jams and parking. In an extended state the electrocar-transformer is as safe as a normal car. If the driver needs to bypass a traffic jam or to park in a narrow place he or she should just push the necessary button and in five seconds Ego will go into fold-down mode and take one and a half times less space lengthwise and gain the capability to easily pass even 20-sentimeter borders. Currently the creator of Ego Konstantin Artemiev is negotiating registration of his car with the EU Vehicle Certification Agency.

RiderGuider

A cycle navigator with vibration that prompts the rider the turn direction was designed by the student of Skoltech Vage Taamzyan during his studying at MIT. The advantage of the new technology is that it signals the direction of the movement and the biker does not have to be distracted from the road.

There are several models of navigators for bycycles, but as in the car devices the user has to look at the screen from time to time, which can lead to obvious results on a busy track. In case of RiderGuider navigator it is enough to choose the final destination point and put your smartphone in the pocket. There will be no need to look at the screen, because the instructions received by phone will be duplicated by the vibration of the handlebar. It is expected that depending on sowtware the navigator can cost in the range of 25-30$ up to 50-100$.

RusGenDiagnostics

Skolkovo Biomed Cluster resident RusGenDiagnostics works in the sphere of personalized medicine, theranostics, on creating a product for cancer diagnostics and individual therapy selection. Traditionally, oncologists prescribe standard therapy on the basis of clinical data of other patients. This approach does not consider individual molecular characteristics of each tumor, therefore on average medicines are inefficient in 75% of cases.

Diagnostic panels of RusGenDiagnostics allow defining in a small tumor sample of the patient mutations in the key genes and activity level of the processes, on which depends the tumor’s growth. On the basis of the received molecular data for each patient the most individually effective medicines will be defined. This molecular new generation diagnostics can be done in any oncologic medical partnering center.

At the Open Innovations Forum the key challenges in treating oncological diseases and the ways that our product can help overcome them will be visually demonstrated. The visitors will see interactive visualization of complex chains of molecular interaction in a cell. RusGenDiagnostics will demonstrate how significant are the differences on a molecular level among the patients with the same diagnosis. It will be shown how the system of RusGenDiagnostics allows deciphering the complex interaction chains of dozens of thousands of molecules, defining individually for each patient the key activated chain segments and selecting the most efficient combinations of existing medicines.

Sequoia genetics

Biotechnological company Sequoia genetics will present at the Forum a unique diagnostic solution for finding serious hereditary diseases in newborns and its possession in couples planning pregnancy based on next-generations sequencing (NCG) technologies that includes a set of reagents and special software. This demonstration will take place at Skolkovo’s stand dedicated to IT in healthcare. Here Forum’s visitors can see the next-generation sequenator, which is able to “read” parts of genom of dozens of people in a matter of hours. The visitors of the stand can undergo the required procedures to create a digital card of a patient and make a DNA saliva test.

Optograd Nanotech

Optograd Nanotech, formed on the basis of the academic city in Novosibirsk for commercialization of the developments of the Siberian branch of Russian Academy of Sciences, during two years achieved the level that allows it to compete with the quality of engine part processing with the leading automobile producers, and also with smaller expenditures.

The company’s key focus is implementation of laser-plasma technologies for getting super-hard covers and surface modification. Such technologies allow substantially decreasing cost of goods and greatly increasing their durability, rise wear-resistance of new or restored machine parts and mechanisms. The know-how of the company is not in the coverings, but in the mode of application. The common practice is the following: the process happens in vacuum, it is expensive and rather slow. Optograd Nanotech can apply coverings at atmosphere pressure and hundred times faster, at a speed of 100 square centimeters per second. This could be achieved, because the company learned how to fire laser-plasma with unique characteristics right at the surface of the detail at work.
