Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technologies (SkolTech) has announced a Chief Information Officer (CIO) vacancy.


As stated in the announcement, the CIO will be engaged in IT strategy development, management of the entire IT infrastructure and represent Skoltech in joint IT projects with other universities and organizations. He reports directly to the Executive Vice President and Senior Vice-President for research and innovations.

Other responsibilities include development of IT strategy together with the management and lecturers of Skoltech and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), creation of world class IT infrastructure at the new campus required for conducting innovative researches, implementation of complex information systems as well as providing reliable high-performance communication channels.

In addition, the CIO will develop and adopt a long-term working programme for the IT Department, including its organizational structure, budget, HR policy and outsourcing policy necessary to provide the institute with services in the sphere of data transfer (including voice and video), performance of the data center, R&D and administrative systems, information security, and so on.

The CIO will be responsible for determining current and forecasting future IT requirements as well as evaluating user satisfaction with IT services.

Among the main requirements for the candidate are more than 10 years of experience in IT service management at a large organization, preferably an R&D institution; higher technical or managerial education, with preferably a PhD; strong managerial skills; knowledge of English; ability to understand new trends in IT and evaluate their value for the institute.

Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technologies is a non-state educational research institute founded in 2011 by the Skolkovo Foundation with the support of the Massachusetts Institute of Technologies (MIT). The head of the institute is professor of Massachusetts Institute of Technology Edward Crawley. Founders include Moscow Institute of Physics and Technologies, Scientific Center “Chernogolovka”, Tomsk Technical University, Moscow School of Management “Skolkovo”, “Rosnano”, Russian Venture Company and others. Main directions of work at the institute are energy, IT, medicine and biology, space and nuclear technologies.

The institute plans to become a full-fledged international educational institution by 2020. It will have 200 lecturers and 1200 students, the latter number growing further to 2400.
