In the frameworks of Skolkovo project “Lighting Technologies based on Organic LED”, the company “Optogun” managed to reach record-breaking indicators for OLED efficiency.

Thanks to its unique technology which consists in the use of polymer nano-composites based on non-organic quantum dots – an effective center of radiative recombination – in the emission layer of organic LED, “Optogun OSR” Ltd managed to achieve record-breaking indicators for organic LED on the basis of organic polymers, all in the frameworks of a Skolkovo project “Light Technologies on Organic LED”. At a lifespan of 50,000 hours efficiency of OLED equaled to 35 lm/W, while brightness equaled to 1,000 cd/m2.

By changing the size and composition of quantum dots, it is possible to set the wave length of OLED radiation. Thanks to use of various quantum dots in one emission layer it is possible to receive radiation in red, blue and green spheres of the specter, which, when combined, give white colour. Colloid quantum dots on the basis of semiconductor connections AIIVBI were used for producing polymer nano-composite, manufactured under an original patented technology, developed together with “STRC “Nanotech-Dubna””.

“A barrier of 35 lm/W is considerable for technologies in which polymers and their nano-composites are applied, with the method of liquid printing. Such technology allows to considerably (10 times) reduce costs of production of OLED in comparison to the technology of vacuum deposition of small organic molecules which has already become state of the art. Besides, it allows producing LED on a flexible and transparent base and considerably increasing the area of luminous surface which is practically impossible in the case of molecule deposition, as diode sizes are defined by the size of the deposition chamber and depend on uniformity of the spary”, comments “Optogun OSR” Senior Research Officer, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Science Pavel Brunkov.

The structure of the organic OLED is patented and includes original injection and transport layers, optimized in the course of close scientific cooperation with the Lebedev Physical Institute at the Academy of Science. In the future the company plans to continue working in this direction and raise the indicator to 60 lm/W.
