As part of the second meeting of senior officials and accompanying events of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum held from May 20 to June 5 in Kazan, the Skolkovo Foundation presented a project on the development of radiation technologies in the working group Industrial Science and Technology.
Skolkovo’s nuclear technology cluster came forward with the initiative to support the development of scientific and technical cooperation in the field of radiation technology in the Asia-Pacific region. The project presented by the cluster is aimed at the formation of expert working groups made up of representatives from APEC countries and the realization of a series of international seminars on the development of radiation technologies in medicine, ecology, agriculture, industry and other sectors.
Upon completion of the project, Skolkovo’s nuclear technology cluster, as the coordinator of the "Radiation Technologies" technology platform, will work alongside representatives of countries set to take part in the initiative to form a road map for cooperation in the field of radiation technology. The document will then be submitted to specialized national agencies and international organizations.
"2012 is the year of Russia's chairmanship of APEC. By default, it is generally thought that the country that chairs the group sets the tone and agenda for the year. The Skolkovo Foundation’s initiative for the advancement of APEC countries in one of the most promising technological areas — radiation technology — has been met with great interest and support, especially from representatives of Southeast Asia. This suggests that the direction is highly relevant, and the initiative well timed," said head of multilateral cooperation and European integration of the Industry and Trade Ministry of the Russian Federation Roman Andreyeschev.
The project is slated for completion in 2012-2013.
