15 февраля 2022 г.

The Digital Business Space hosted the international educational conference "Distant & Digital" for experts in the field of law transformation, intellectual property, creative industries and the digital economy.

The conference participants discussed the impact of digitalization, artificial intelligence and new media on the transformation of the legal sphere. Over the course of two days, more than fifty specialized events took place at the DBS site - lectures, masterclasses and plenary sessions. In addition, within the framework of the conference, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Skolkovo Intellectual Property Center and the National Technology Transfer Association.

At the opening of Distant & Digital, Igor Drozdov, Chairman of the Board at the Skolkovo Foundation, said that the topic of digitalization today is no longer a narrow-profile topic and is relevant not only for creators, but also for consumers of professional creative content: “With the development of technology, virtual worlds occupy more and more places in our daily lives and, of course, there is more and more content that we interact with. This is already the third conference "Distant & Digital", which will touch upon the main trends in the transition of the Russian legal industry to digital. This year, more than five hundred companies and more than fifty experts took part in it”.

One of the main topics of the conference, which was devoted to the plenary session, was the need to protect the rights of consumers of intellectual products. According to experts, legislators and big businesses should be interested in raising consumer legal awareness. In addition, during the plenary session, the impact of artificial intelligence on content creation was also discussed - can AI be an author, is it possible to make AI a fake news moderator, or can AI itself act as a disinformer.

At the meeting “Consumer Rights of an Intellectual Product”, Director of the Scientific and Educational Center for Intellectual Property and Digital Economy “Digital IP” Ekaterina Chukovskaya noted the problem existing on the market about the reliability of information and the authenticity of the author’s identity and the vector along which legal changes should take place: “Today we must focus on shaping the understanding of creative content consumers, whose product they are buying, how safe and true this information is. Copyright and creative rights can sometimes be misleading: anyone can hide behind a pseudonym. The consumer may easily not know whose product he is consuming - this is one of the main problems in the era of digital transformation and information accessibility. In addition, the protection of content in copyright should be aimed, among other things, at protecting children from information that is harmful to their health and development”.
