Hello Moscow!

Russia, oh Russia. It was time to set foot once again to one of our regular destinations.

Moscow, with a population of around five times that of Finland, can be expected to produce some great deal flow and we were about to find out exactly what kind of. As opposed to previous times, we now had the opportunity to organize two Warmups in the city center with the all famous and ever helpful Digital October with help from {HSE.Inc} and at the Technopark of Skolkovo.

After an amazing weather on Tuesday, whole Moscow seemed to become the center of snow storms for the following days. Fortunately, the weather didn’t seem to affect our Warmup participants one single bit on Wedensday. Once an old chocolate factory, today it served as Digital October’s headquarters and was packed with some great entreprenurial spirit. We were glad to see the quality of pitches and ideas ranging from processing milk at high speeds to softwares for business process management in microfinance institutions. All in all, we found some great startups to coach and help, and got a good insight of what is happening in Moscow at the moment.

Skolkovo Foundation is an initiative by prime minister Dmitry Medvedev with an aim to build a scientific and technological center to develop and commercialize high technology startups. It consists of an Innovation Center, Institute of Science and Technology and a School of Management. The venue itself is only 10 min to 1,5 hour car ride (depending on the traffic) from the Moscow city center. Continuing our great partnership Startup Sauna was invited to host a Warmup also at their premises.

And how did the pitching startups look? The startups there really blew our minds! When people talk about hi-tech in Skolkovo, they sure aren’t kidding. Or what would you think of unmanned aerial vehicles, open source satellite platforms, and reinventing the oil industry? The technology is definitely blooming in Skolkovo, now it would only be the matter of helping the great teams to get the product out to the market and making it big. Together we’ll be able to deliver this too!

And the best ones of the Warmups? We are proud to announce the winners from Moscow Warmup to be 30sec Milk, Energomap, Microcred.it and Youmely. At Skolkovo the prize went to Eltechs, Itsbeta and Tradematic.
