Skolkovo’s Space and Telecommunications Technologies Cluster supported the activities of the Eighth international Samara summer space school.

This year the school held its sessions from August 27 to September 9. The format of the school is a scientific and educational youth conference. This year the conference was called “Perspective space technologies and experiments”.

The choice of the city of Samara as a venue for the event wasn’t occasional. It’s exactly there, where the key machinery enterprises of the aviation and space industry are located. They manufacture the most reliable boosters for space ships (“Soyuz” and others).  It’s worth mentioning in this context that Gagarin’s «Vostok» was also made in Samara.

Lections and seminars were held at the premises of the Samara State Aerospace University named after Sergey Korolyov. The 2012 sessions were devoted to the 70thanniversary of this university, which was previously called the Kuybyshev Aviation Institute.

As Dmitry Paison, head of development of the Skolkovo Space cluster said, «Samara became a home town for our cluster, and by helping this school we also promote one of our residents (which is among organizers of the school) to develop connections in this community.”

Fifty students, forty of them from abroad (Europe and Latin America), came to study to the school this year. The school’s activity was supported by the Russian Academy of Cosmonautics named after Konstantin Tsiolkovsky as well as the TsKB Progress construction bureau (develops Soyuz rockets).

The school curriculum this year included such subjects, as the Russian federal space program, nano-and micro-satellites, technologies of preparation of experiments in space, satellites radio navigation. The students also found out about opportunities of financial and non-financial support, which Skolkovo foundation provides its residents with.

This part of the course was taught by Dmitry Tseitlin, one of Skolkovo’s business coaches and partner in Minerva Capital.

The Summer Space School-2012 ended by a cultural program, which included visiting of famous “Space Samara” museum. The program culminated with the ceremony, at which all students were awarded with special graduation certificates.
