Russia’s state banking giant Sberbank is planning to build a residential district to house 1,600 of its employees inside the Skolkovo innovation city, the bank’s press service confirmed to TASS news agency.

The residential area will comprise 653 apartments covering an area of 60,355 square metres, TASS reported. Skolkovo Foundation president Victor Vekselberg mentioned Sberbank’s plans during a foundation council meeting last week, noting that it was a “momentous event” in Skolkovo’s partnership with Sberbank.

Sberbank opened the biggest data centre in Russia at Skolkovo at the end of last year, and is also building its own technopark inside the innovations city to a design by the late British architect Zaha Hadid, in which 10,000-12,000 people will work. The residential district will house employees working at both of these facilities.

Construction work is due to begin in August this year, and is expected to last for two years, TASS cited Sberbank’s press service as saying.
