Today Skolkovo celebrates an anniversary. On Wednesday, March 28, 2012 the Skolkovo Innovation Centre officially adopted its 400th resident. Participants old and new joined the 33 new companies engaged in researching innovative products for future commercialization at a ceremony in Moscow.
The Information Technology Cluster continues to attract the most participants - 15 of 33 new participants joining today. Slightly fewer (10 companies) were in the Energy Efficient Technologies cluster; the Biomedical Technologies cluster and Nuclear Technologies in turn attracted 3 each; and the Space and Telecommunications cluster – 2.
New participants will work on such products as a cloud platform for e-commerce company (Media Partners), the development of data management systems for mechanical engineering (SDI Research) and an electronic payment system for mobile and electronic commerce based on cloud computing (Interveil).
Another company, Forest Watch, will focus on a very different area, the development and commercialization of forest monitoring and early detection of forest fires.
DCC and Ksis Labs will develop high-performance hardware and software security systems.
Another new resident, the Centre for Applied Research Computer Networks, aims to develop algorithms, methods and tools for new generation network management, inventing a faster and safer way of processing, transmitting and storing information. The aim is that their research should serve as a basis for Russian companies to produce a new generation of hardware and software network management.
One new company engaged in the Energy cluster will work on the creation of complex automatic controls for steam turbines in power plants to increase the efficiency of energy production and other indicators (Diakont-Innovation). Another company, TriboTech, will work on the technological development and production of new generation anti-wear nanodispersed compound "Striboil plus", as well as the creation of new wave power (IVEK RU). The company "Laksera" develop and launch the production of highly efficient and reliable integrated drivers for standard LED bulbs and modules.
Another company joining the Energy cluster (Composite Electro) has already won an award when in February 2012 they were the winners of the most innovative projects for power grid companies, organized by Skolkovo. Composite Electro is developing a high-efficiency high-voltage cable with a composite core.
The Biomedical Cluster is also attracting great new projects. I-Mab will create an innovative drug for the treatment of autoimmune diseases, Sineuro a new drug based on bioactive polypeptides from animal sources, and BBU Pharmaceuticals will conduct research, develop and implement drugs based on technology "BrainDirect".
In the Nuclear cluster: Deliz will work on a project for the certification of an innovative closed-radiation source based on ytterbium-169 brachytherapy for by high, UniceLazer on the development of holmium fibre lasers for medical applications, and “Solutions for Nuclear Installations and Technologies”.
Finally, the space cluster expanded to two more companies. One of them the Russian EADS Technology Office Skolkovo will work on the technological development of a detonation combustion chamber with a continuous ring-type detonation of vaporized hydrocarbon fuel and its integration into a jet engine. Meanwhile, IKIZ will develop information services for monitoring terrestrial biological resources based on satellite observations of the Earth.
Representatives of the companies have traditionally been awarded inscribed bricks - a symbol of the building of the innovative city Skolkovo, which will create more favourable conditions for the early realization of innovation projects into concrete results.

The Skolkovo Foundation
The Skolkovo Foundation has the mandate from the Russian Government to help accelerate the transformation of Russia from a resource-intensive to an innovation-based economy through strategic partnerships with leading scientists and corporations (currently numbering over 400 companies and start ups). The Foundation aims to strengthen the links between Russian and international science, technology, education, entrepreneurship and investment communities. To achieve this objective it is overseeing the creation of the Skolkovo Innovation Centre composed of five R&D clusters, a Technopark, the Skolkovo Institute of Technology (a new graduate research university established in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Skolkovo City, located near Moscow. Together these entities will establish a vibrant eco-system of technological innovation and entrepreneurship. The Foundation is a non-profit organisation founded in May 2010 by the Russian Government with a grant of $5 billion.
