The Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skolkovo Tech) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) announce the 2nd Research Center Proposer’s Conference to be held on July 9-10, 2012 in Skolkovo, Moscow Region, Russia. The conference provides a forum to learn about and plan for research center proposals in response to an important collaboration opportunity. The Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skolkovo Tech) is a new private graduate university located in Moscow Region, Russia. Skolkovo Tech was established in 2011 in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Skolkovo Tech aims to advance education, scholarship and economic development in the Russian Federation and beyond by educating leading graduate students and conducting research programs that address key challenges in science, technology and innovation. In support of this mission, Skolkovo Tech has announced three rounds of Call for Proposals for Skolkovo Tech Research Centers (web.mit.edu/SkTech/rc-call/). This program funds collaborative, inter-disciplinary and international research teams using innovative approaches in science and technology with high potential impact. Particular emphasis is placed in and across the fields of Biomedical Science and Technology, Energy Science and Technology, Information Science and Technology, Nuclear Science and Technology, and Space Science and Technology. In the first round call for research center white papers, which ended March 13, 2012, Skolkovo Tech received 129 submissions from over 360 universities and research institutions representing Russia and over 20 countries. The proposing teams had many outstanding scientists, including six Nobel Laureates, one Fields Medal winner and numerous national academy members as well as many outstanding young researchers. Upon completion of this first competition, the first three research centers will be established. The second round call for research center proposal white papers is now beginning. In support of this round, the 2nd Skolkovo Tech Research Center Proposers Conference on July 9-10, 2012 will provide participants a platform to discuss issues related to practical approaches in creation of joint research centers, as well as opportunities for integrated support of international collaborative research and other innovative initiatives. The program of the two-day event will be composed of presentations performed by Skolkovo Tech, MIT and the invited speakers and will include the following topics:
The conference program will also include presentation sessions where researchers will be able to present their current activities and proposals for future cooperation within the Skolkovo Tech program, to help identify new partnering opportunities with other participants. Potential university and institute research proposers, as well as experts, government officials, and senior leaders of the research institutes from Russia, Europe, Asia, the USA, and other countries are invited to participate in this event. Keynote speakers will the President of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, the Skolkovo Tech/MIT Initiative Faculty Lead from MIT, and prominent representatives of the Russian Federation and Skolkovo Foundation. GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Location and date: The Conference will be held on 9-10 July 2012, Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO, Congress Hall, Novaya ul. 100, Skolkovo, Odintsovsky District, Moscow Region, Russia. Participation: All persons wishing to participate in the conference are requested to apply online in advance. Accepted applicants will be sent a confirmation and, if relevant, instructions for presentation abstract submission, visa support form and hotel reservations.. Format and Abstract submission: The Conference program will be composed of invited presentations. Attendees seeking to make a presentation at the Proposers Conference should submit an abstract, in English, not exceeding 500 words. The deadline for abstracts is 20 June 2012. Based on review of these abstracts, contributed speaker presentation confirmation will be made by 27 June 2012.
