A Skolkovo Foundation delegation will attend the New Cities Summit, which will be held in Paris on May 14-16, along with prominent public and political figures, 800 global thought leaders, mayors, leading CEOs and representative of civil society.
The theme of the first ever summit is "thinking ahead, building together" and includes a discussion of the role of international collaboration in the future 21st century city.
Mayor Bertrand Delanoë commented, “On behalf of Paris, I’m pleased to welcome this important summit, which will enable all stakeholders involved in urbanization to examine the future of the world’s cities. This event is about dialogue and innovation aimed at improving the day-to-day life of our cities’ residents.” Skolkovo Foundation representatives engaged in that dialogue include Deputy Head of City Administration Jack Bennett, Vice President of Skolkovo Foundation and Chief Operating Officer for Education and Research Oleg Alekseev and Vice President for International Relations and Communications Seda Pumpyanskya.
“The Skolkovo Foundation is attempting to form a city of the future, which we see primarily as a creative space. It is a place where people gather together to create something new and important. Our future city will be built using the most advanced technologies and will become a true city of the 21st century. That is why we consider it to be an important part in this forum and in the New Cities Foundation as a whole," said Jack Bennett, on the eve of the summit.
The summit is organized by the New Cities Foundation, which was created in 2011 and has already become a prestigious international venue for discussing innovation in urban planning and the sustainable development of megacities in the 21st century. The Foundation works closely with the private business community, civil society and academia. In its activities, the Foundation focuses on rapidly growing and urbanizing economies.
Representatives of the Skolkovo Foundation and the New Cities Foundation have long expressed their interest in establishing partnerships and active collaboration between the two organizations.

The Skolkovo Foundation
The Skolkovo Foundation has the mandate from the Russian Government to help accelerate the transformation of Russia from a resource-intensive to an innovation-based economy through strategic partnerships with leading scientists and corporations (currently numbering over 400 companies and start ups). The Foundation aims to strengthen the links between Russian and international science, technology, education, entrepreneurship and investment communities. To achieve this objective it is overseeing the creation of the Skolkovo Innovation Centre composed of five R&D clusters, a Technopark, the Skolkovo Institute of Technology (a new graduate research university established in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Skolkovo City, located near Moscow. Together these entities will establish a vibrant eco-system of technological innovation and entrepreneurship. The Foundation is a non-profit organisation founded in May 2010 by the Russian Government with a grant of $5 billion.
