Skolkovo Business Mission to 42nd Gitex Technology Week: Endless Opportunities for Russian Tech Companies

On October 10th-14th, 2022 nine of Skolkovo Foundation resident startups took part in Skolkovo Business Mission to Gitex Technology week in its biggest ever 42nd edition that gathered over 5,000 exhibitors and 138,000 attendees at Dubai World Trade Center in Dubai, UAE. The Business mission was organized by the International Cooperation Department of the Skolkovo Foundation and supported by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Moscow and the Trade Representative Office of the Russian Embassy in UAE.

 

The Business mission was held in an objective of expanding Russian-Emirati business contacts and cooperation in the sphere of high-tech technologies and innovations in addition to stimulating long term cooperation between Skolkovo Foundation and regional partners.

 

During Gitex Technology week, The Skolkovo Foundation has signed a cooperation agreement with Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park aiming for supporting startups looking for opportunities in the Emirati market. Furthermore, two memorandums of understandings with Annual Investment Meeting (UAE) and Eurasia Gulf Business (UAE) were signed during the event with objectives to enhance cooperation and support startups from both sides when tapping in each other’s markets.

We have encountered remarkable openness and positive approach when discussing business opportunities with Emirati partners. We are keen about enhancing and developing our relations with regional partners towards a fruitful mutual cooperation”. “Signing the MoUs today is an important step towards strengthening our relations with Emirati partners and bringing an added value to Skolkovo ecosystem participants”, Saprykin added.

Leena Abu Mukh Zoabi, Head for International Cooperation at the Skolkovo Foundation, has held a constructive discussion with the government of Ajman on the creation of mutual cooperation scheme aiming for stimulating innovation and research among the youth using methodologies developed by the Skolkovo Innovation Center different participants. The two sides agreed on holding a follow up meeting gathering the potentially relevant parties to push this initiative further.

 

Leena Abu Mukh Zoabi, informed sk.ru: “The meeting with Ajman Government was very promising and gathered all relevant stakeholders like the Director General of Ajman Chamber of Commerce, the CEO of e-Government of Ajman, the licensing division at Ajman Ministry of Economic Development and others to indicate the importance and priority that the Ajman government attributes to this cooperation."

The business mission participants have had the chance to conduct over 50 bilateral B2B negotiations with over 20 potential partners and enterprises including government entities and development institutes. Besides, three visits to free economic zones of Dubai International Financial Center, Dubai Silicon Oasis and Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park Tech Park were arranged and held in an objective of discovering the different possibilities and benefits these zones provide for foreign tech startups.

Skolkovo companies have confirmed that UAE has a very friendly supportive environment for startup projects, and that this country could be considered as a good spot for global expansion.  

 

Skolkovo resident companies have managed to attract interest of Emirati and regional partners like Dubai Electricity and Water Authority; Abu Dhabi First Bank; Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company-DU; Gulf Future Business; Tharawat Technologies, Dubai Health Authority, Hub71; Dubai Healthcare City to name few.
