Jelastic CEO Ruslan Synytsky revealed the move at a news conference on the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where the company is part of a 20-strong Skolkovo delegation.

“Malaga is an entrepreneurial Smart City with a surrounding innovative ecosystem known as Malaga Valley which is known for its high-tech industry, its pilot projects, its national high-speed rail research center and its entrepreneurial spirit,” said Ruslan Synytsky, Jelastic CEO.

“Given its low cost of living, high quality of life, excellent transportation infrastructure and its geographic location, Malaga offers a wealth of opportunities for the further economic development of Jelastic.”

Jelastic is based in Silicon Valley but in 2012 launched an R&D spinoff at Skolkovo to develop a product that runs and scales in-house Java-based applications.

“This is the first Skolkovo company to open up an office in Spain – and it’s especially nice in this great city of Malaga,” said Skolkovo vice president Igor Bogachev, executive director of the IT cluster.

“We are partnering with Malaga a lot and we look forward to more Russian technology companies opening up offices in Spain and have their European headquarters in Malaga.”

“Definitely, we are proud of Jelastic. … We really trust that this is not the last office! We expect some more markets to be conquered.”

Jelastic now has offices in the United States, Ukraine, Russia, Australia and Spain since launching their cloud solution in 2011. This year, the company is looking to expand their private and public cloud services deeper into the European market, explaining the new location within the Malaga Valley ecosystem.

There, Jelastic will rub shoulders with the likes of Ericsson, Oracle, Google, IBM, Accenture, Keysight Technologies, Telefonica, Huawei, Computer Sciences Corporation, Raytheon, Fujitsu Ten, TDK-EPC and others.

Jelastic has public and private cloud partners in European locations such as Finland, Germany, Sweden, Britain, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and now Spain with GMV.

The Invest in Andalucía team and the Málaga Open for Business team collaborated with Jelastic from the beginning of their expansion project in Europe. They provided data, information, advice and key contacts for the decision on where to set up their new European headquarters.

“As a leading cloud computing service platform provider, we are excited to welcome Jelastic to Malaga and to the Malaga Valley innovative ecosystem,” said Marc Sanderson, Malaga city’s director of international economic development.
