Microsoft Research is to award grants to high-potential projects that develop machine learning, a type of artificial intelligence, the company has announced.

Machine learning is the ability of computer programs to adapt and teach themselves new capabilities after being exposed to new data.

Microsoft Research is appealing to R&D projects that already need or use its Microsoft Azure resources – an online offering that gives access to the companies programs and expertise in the field.

Priority projects are those that deal with finances, computer vision, linguistics, physics, chemistry, biology and geology, the company said in a release.

Microsoft is a Skolkovo partner.
