Sixteen of Russia’s leading 36 startup enterprises, as identified by the respected business magazine Trade Secret, are Skolkovo residents.

The magazine, a division of the Kommersant publishing house, published the list of the country’s top budding businesses on Thursday.

Companies were judged by three main criteria: They entered operations no earlier than 2010 and no later than 2013; they have already attracted at least $1 million in investment; and they having been drawing since at least April.

The Skolkovo startups on the list hail chiefly from the foundation’s IT research cluster. They are: Oktogo, 2can, SDN-Video, Do-Ra, Floctory, RRT, IbuildAPP, Ivideon, Rocketbank, Surfingbird, Workle, Lingualeo, Ostrovok, Ubank, Angrycitizen, Metabar.

Skolkovo currently has about 1,000 resident startups spread across five clusters: IT, space, energy, biomedicine and nuclear technology. Skolkovo offers incentives in the form of tax breaks, grants and administrative support to startups in order to help generate a culture of entrepreneurship in Russia.
