The upcoming summit of the SCO and BRICS in Ufa opened opportunities for communication and cooperation not only for politicians and businessmen, but also for scientists.
With the support of the Government of the Republic of Bashkortostan, the Office of the SCO, BRICS group "Ufa-2015", the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Bashkortostan in Ufa an international symposium «DHMEQ: International cooperation in oncology" and a round table "International cooperation in oncology" was held as a part of the BRICS and the SCO summit on June 5. Informational support for this event was provided by "Skolkovo" innovation center.
The symposium was opened by the President of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Bashkortostan Ramil Bakhtizin.
Mikhail Dubina, the correspondent member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vice-Rector of the Academic university, the scientific and educational center of nanotechnologies, RAS, made a greeting speech on behalf of RAS.
The idea of the symposium which would be devoted to the discussion of research results by scientists from different countries of the therapeutic properties of the DHMEQ molecule for the treatment of inflammatory diseases and cancer was born a year ago at a meeting of Professor Kazuo Umezava (Japan) and Professor Shamil Gantsev (Russia) and was supported by the Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov. Professors Gantsev and Umezava are the supervisors of the Skolkovo startups that launched a project to establish a technology based on DHMEQ for cancer treatment.
The symposium and round table was attended by scientists from Ufa, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Brazil, China, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Norway and Japan. Prof. Kazuo Umezava (Aichi Medical University) presented data on the development of molecule DHMEQ in his report "Opening of DHMEQ molecule and the role of transcription factor NF-kB in the formation of various diseases".
The results of the research and the hypothesis for treatment using DHMEQ was presented by prof. Shamil Gantsev (the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Bashkortostan) in his report "Research of peritoneal carcinomatosis and development of DHMEQ for intraperitoneal therapy".
Dr. Andrea Biagiotti from the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil) in the report "Anti-inflammatory activity of DHMEQ in nasal polyps cell culture " presented the first results of their research under the guidance of prof. Fabiana Valera.
Most questions were addressed to the speaker from Shenzhen pharmaceutical company Vanhe (China) Dr. Jun Ma. His presentation "Development of DHMEQ dosage form for external application" contained a lot of factual material.
Prof. Magdy El-Salhi of the University of Bergen (Norway) has a long story of cooperation with prof.Umezava. Therefore, his report contained a lot of information and practical recommendations.
The symposium was finished with the report "Agent of the second generation: no epoxide analogue of DHMEQ» made by the researcher from the University of Aichi (Japan) Miss Kulravi Sidthipong.
Then all the participants of the symposium gave an interview for the program "Science 102".
After the break, the round table "International cooperation in oncology" started.
Roundtable participants held it actively and dynamically. At first the presentations and informational messages were given, and then free discussion took place. Christina Khodova, the project manager of the "Oncology" direction from the Biomed cluster of "Skolkovo" IC, delivered a brilliant presentation of "Skolkovo" IC and Biomed Cluster. Foreign scholars who first learned about the IC "Skolkovo", judging from their questions, were clearly excited by the potential of "Skolkovo" residents.
Professor Eliane Braga from the University of Sao Paulo made a report on the complex and extensive system of grant support in Brazil. She also made a presentation about the development of new anti-cancer agent based on natural toxins.
Professor Poletaev, the scientific director of the Skolkovo stratup "Onkobiomarker" gave his concept about the prediction and prevention of not only cancer but also other serious diseases.
Pustovalova Maria, senior expert,the head of Biomed "Intellectual Property Center (IPC)" Skolkovo " informed in her presentation about the services of IPC " Skolkovo" for " Skolkovo " residents and non-residents.
Representatives of the Riga center of virotherapy , medical director Kaspars Losans and manager Diane Oticone, talked about the success of their melanoma treatment with the help of the virus and offered cooperation to the representatives of different countries.
An active participant in the symposium and roundtable was Professor Julia Shikova from the Bashkir State Medical University, who asked a lot of questions to almost all speakers.
Coordinator of the symposium was the General Director of the Skolkovo resident "PeritonTreat" Rustem Amirov.
The co-chairs of the symposium and round table moderators professors Kazuo Umezava and Shamil Gantsev awarded certificates and thanked the speakers for their participation.
All the conditions for helding the scientific sessions were provided by the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Bashkortostan and the President-Hotel.
In summary it can be noted that the summit of the SCO and BRICS allows to bring together the peoples of these countries in various fields, including science.
