The Skolkovo project to establish a hi-tech research hub near Moscow is organic for Russia, the head of Russia's hi-tech government corporation Rosnano said Friday.

"I believe the concentration in one place of resources to create a model for a breakthrough to new quality is very organic for this country and reasonable from the viewpoint of world experience," Anatoly Chubais said.

Skolkovo is being built from scratch 20 km (12.4 miles) outside of Moscow. The center will focus on research in five priority spheres: energy, information technologies, communication, biomedical research and nuclear technologies.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced the establishment of a modern powerful center for research and development, Skolkovo, in February. The media dubbed it Russia's Silicon Valley after the Northern Californian region that has served as a model for such centers in the United States and worldwide.

Russia considers the development of the hi-tech and innovation sector a top priority, planning to invest billions of dollars in the sphere.
