Russia's hi-tech hub Skolkovo and Stanford University have agreed to develop joint research projects, Russian billionaire Viktor Vekselberg said on Friday.

"We plan a wide range of joint projects with Stanford University," Vekselberg, who is in charge of the Skolkovo project, told RIA Novosti.

Former U.S. State Secretary Condoleezza Rice toured Skolkovo earlier on Friday with a group of 40 students from Stanford University.

Skolkovo, a hi-tech development just 20 km outside of Moscow, is President Dmitry Medvedev's pet modernization project. In October, former California Government Arnold Schwarzenegger repaid a visit Medvedev made to Silicon Valley last summer, leading a delegation of business leaders and investors to Skolkovo to help establish connections.

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden visited the hub earlier in March.
