The Skolkovo Foundation and Intel on Thursday, December 8th 2011, signed the cooperation agreement that provides for the establishment in the Innovation City, a research and development (R&D) centre by 2015, including the assignment of the accredited status for Intel Capital Venture Foundation. The agreement was signed by the Vice-President for key partners of the Skolkovo Foundation, Conor Lenihan, the Vice-President and general manager of Intel Europe, Middle East and Africa, Christian Morales, and Intel CEO of Research and Development in Russia, Kamil Isaev.

In December last year, the Skolkovo Foundation and Intel agreed to cooperate in the development of innovative technologies, and today's agreement is a concrete step in the implementation of these arrangements", - said Conor Lenihan. The Regional Research and Development Centre will be the part of the IT cluster, which focuses on the area of " strategic computer technology and software" and will focus on the following objectives:
- The development and implementation of parallel programming models facilitating the use of modern multi-core systems;
- The creation of new multi-media systems for cars (In-vehicle Infotainment Systems);
- The creation of architectural elements and heterogeneous wireless networks for the future of the Internet.
According to the document within 12 months after the signing the agreement, Intel Capital will review the information about applications of companies for the status of participation in the innovation centre to determine the possible co-financing for their projects. “Intel Capital has invested heavily in Russian companies since 2002. A key feature of Russia for us is the combination of high scientific and engineering capabilities and the rapidly growing market for IT services” – said Marcin Hejka, director of Intel Capital in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Russia,-“We are pleased that our portfolio has several very good examples of investment in Russian start-ups and hope that the cooperation with Skolkovo will further expand the support of talented entrepreneurs in your country”. The parties agreed on the basic organizational parameters of the formation and operation of a regional Intel centre in Skolkovo and agreed to continue the exploration of opportunities for cooperation in the framework of Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (SkTech).
The Skolkovo Foundation
The Skolkovo Foundation has the mandate from the Russian Government to help accelerate the transformation of Russia from a resource-intensive to an innovation-based economy through strategic partnerships with leading scientists and corporations (currently numbering over 310 companies and start-ups.)
